A series with the theme of the classical Japanese anthology Hyakunin Isshu, designed by the talented students of Takefu Commercial and Technical High School.
Composed by Ōe no Masafusa:
「高砂の尾の上の桜咲きにけり
外山の霞たたずもあらなむ」
“How lovely the cherry blossoms blooming high on the peaks of Takasago.
May the mists on the foothills not rise to block the view.”
Inspiring the design of this coat are the words of this classic poem.
To capture the distinct beauty of cherry blossoms during the day and night, we've expressed them both in white and black color variations.
The flared sleeves create a silhouette with a traditional Japanese feel.
The patchwork details on the hem depict a flurry of falling cherry blossoms.
Using a variety of materials with different colors and textures, this design expresses the beauty of falling petals, never appearing the same twice at any instance.
The embroidery on the collar brings forth the beauty of the cherry blossoms themselves.
Through the use of threads in a multitude of colors, it emulates the gradient across the cherry blossom petals.
As for the black version, the faint colors of the petals in the darkness of the night is expressed using purple threads.
The patchwork on the sleeves illustrates a landscape of spring mountains in full bloom.
With a petal-patterned jacquard fabric as the foreground, placed upon a background of fabric in different colors, this design comes together as a full landscape with added visual depth.
