A perennial plant known for its strong toxicity.
The name is said to originate from the fact that the flower resembles the ancient costumes of Torikabuto/Eboshi, or from the resemblance to a rooster's comb.
The English name "monkshood" means "monk's hood (head covering)" and, like the Japanese name, is derived from the shape of the flower.
